ISO 14001 version 2015

ISO 14001 is an international standard for environmental management and the most successful environmental standard in the world.

ISO 14001 specifies the requirements for an environmental management system (EMS). These requirements are aimed at reducing or controlling the risk that a company contributes to the environment. This is based on a process approach, or continuous improvement.

ISO 14001 is, as it were, an extension of ISO 9001 on the specific subject of environmental management.

With the implementation of ISO 9001 an organization learns to think in processes and to secure procedures. Other in-depth process-oriented standards are then relatively easy to implement based on existing processes.

Standards are periodically evaluated by the international organisation ISO. Adjustments are usually made to clarify or revise the standard. After adjustment, the old version is still valid for 3 years. However, it is possible to switch from the introduction and to be certified according to the new version of the standard.
On September 15, 2015, the successor to ISO 14001:2004 was published. In this case, the changes are relatively large.

After September 15, 2018, certificates based on the 2004 version will no longer be valid. The expiration date of certificates issued during the transition period must correspond to the end of the 3-year transition period.
